Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a special organisation of the United Nations (UN) headquartered in Rome. Its top priority is achieving food security for all. Switzerland has been a member of the FAO since 1946.
In particular, the FAO aims to:
- Relieve hunger, food scarcity and malnutrition
- Advance economic and social progress for all and eliminate poverty
- Promote sustainable use of natural (such as land, water, air and climate) and genetic resources for the benefit of generations today and in the future
The FAO has already approved numerous international treaties including the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
