In 2013, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) launched WIPO GREEN, a marketplace for sustainable technology. Its central element is an online platform which contributes to the diffusion of green technologies. WIPO GREEN connects providers with seekers of such technologies. The platform consists of a database which lists green technologies, a network of interested parties, as well as specific WIPO GREEN projects.

The IPI has been an official partner of WIPO GREEN since the end of 2019. Thanks to this partnership, the IPI can have an input into shaping WIPO GREEN and can actively contribute (for example with assisted patent searches) to the diffusion of green technologies. The partnership with WIPO GREEN is also part of the IPI’s contribution to the achievement of the UN’s sustainable development goals.

Green technologies are essential for solving what are known as global challenges, for example adapting to climate change or sustainable agriculture. WIPO GREEN not only provides access to market-ready, IP protected technologies, but also strives to further the development of new sustainable technologies as a whole.
