WIPO GREEN – a marketplace for green technologies
In 2013, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) launched WIPO GREEN, a marketplace for sustainable technologies. Its central element is an online platform that contributes to the diffusion of green technologies. WIPO GREEN connects providers and seekers of such technologies. The platform consists of a database of green technologies, a network of key players and relevant projects.
The IPI has been an official partner of WIPO GREEN since late 2019. And thanks to this partnership, the IPI can play a part in the development of WIPO GREEN. The partnership is part of the IPI’s contribution to achieving the UN sustainability goals.
Green technologies are essential for solving global challenges such as adapting to climate change and sustainable agriculture. In addition to sharing market-ready technologies protected by IP rights, WIPO GREEN also tries to encourage the development of new sustainable technologies.
Swiss Green Economy Symposium (SGES)
The IPI entered into partnership with the SGES in 2023. At the 11th SGES symposium in Winterthur (5–7 September 2023), the IPI explored the role that IP can play in green, sustainable innovations and technologies in an innovation forum titled ‘Innovation, intellectual property and investments: putting the puzzle pieces together’ (in German).
The IPI will also organise an innovation forum at each SGES in Winterthur in 2024–2026.
Strengthening IP and green innovations in international cooperation
The international cooperation projects that the IPI conducts itself or on behalf of SECO all contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The topic of IP and green innovations has been discussed in the IPI’s international cooperation project with Georgia, in particular, as well as in a series of bilateral meetings with other countries (e.g. Algeria and Singapore).
