The IPI ‘Your photo. Your copyright.’ special prize awarded at the LernFilm Festival 2021
Whether artistic photography, an amateur snap, or a simple product photo, the modernised Copyright Act (CopA) protects all photos whether taken by an amateur or a professional. To raise young people’s awareness of this, the IPI is sponsoring the ‘Your photo. Your copyright.’ special prize at this year's LernFilm Festival 2021. With their educational video ‘What’s mine is mine – copyright explained simply’, the winners impressed the jury with their humour, creativity and specific tips on using image material.
Content is constantly being posted and shared on the internet these days – whether on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. In doing so, however, other people’s photos are often being used without permission. Yet as easy as it is to post and share photos on these platforms, as easy as it is to infringe someone else’s copyright. The Copyright Act protects all photographs regardless of whether they have individual character or not. Both photos by professional photographers and the general public are copyright-protected, including everyday family and holiday snaps, as well as press and product photos.
To raise young people's awareness of this issue, the IPI is sponsoring the ‘Your photo. Your copyright.’ special prize at this year's LernFilm Festival as part of its information mandate. In this annual competition, young people from all over Switzerland submit short videos on specific topics, acquiring the digital skills necessary to produce short educational films in workshops and with the help of specific teaching materials. A total of 440 videos were submitted in 2021 – a record-breaking year – with awards being presented in a total of five categories for the most creative and educational films.
The broadcast of the LernFilm Festival 2021 took place on 2 June on SRF mySchool . The event was moderated by Raphael Labhart, known for presenting the children’s TV programmes ‘Clip und klar!’ and ‘SRF Kinder News’.
The IPI warmly congratulates the winners Noëlle, Liv, Carla and Mia on winning the special prize ‘Your photo. Your copyright.’ for their video: ‘What’s mine is mine – copyright explained simply’ in German
