The IPI simplifies IP rights management with new online services
Our popular online services for trade marks have been expanded. The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) now also offers databases for all IP rights as well as various digital services to make it easier for customers to manage their IP rights and pay fees.
Here's an overview of the new online services.
New databases for patents, designs and supplementary protection certificates
Alongside trade marks and emblems, you can now find out about active and cancelled patents, designs, supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) and paediatric SPCs in the IPI’s databases at database.ipi.ch.
While Swissreg is still the organ of publication for all IP rights for the time being, the new databases are easy to search through, even for lay people. There are numerous filters to customise search results. Additionally, you can use advanced search options and search operators to make your searches more precise and look for similar terms.
Request register changes online at your convenience
If an IP rights owner moves to a new address or transfers their IP right, they are advised to indicate this in the register. It is now possible to request most register changes for all IP rights online. To do so, the owner or their representative must call up their IP right in the database and enter the change request directly – either as a guest or via a user account.
Receive communications electronically
Owners and representatives of IP rights can now opt to receive communications from the IPI electronically for all IP rights procedures. To this end, they must first register with a delivery platform recognised for communication with the Swiss authorities and enter their details in the eGov subscriber directory.
Pay fees online with a current account
Lastly, holders of a current account with the IPI can enter debit orders online. Outstanding fees are generally settled on the same day – provided that sufficient funds are available.
Overview of requests and current account transactions
Lastly, customers with a user account can view the status of their online requests – such as requests for register changes – at any time. Current account transactions in the last three months are also visible in user accounts.
