How colourless life would be without intellectual property
The award-winning short film ‘IPDENTICAL’ illustrates what everyday life would be like without intellectual property – grey and monotonous. The same song is played on the radio every day; the same films are always showing in cinemas.
Protecting innovation
Offices and institutes of intellectual property play a key role in this regard. They maintain registers for IP rights such as trade marks, patents and designs. Nowadays, however, the work of IP offices goes far beyond this core business. They also provide services which allow creatives to gain clarity on the path to product innovation. One example of these services is the Assisted Patent Search offered by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI).
The World Trademark Review took this aspect into particular consideration in a study on the innovation ranking of 50 leading IP offices and institutes from around the world. In the study, the IPI ranks an impressive fifth in Europe and ninth in the world. According to the World Trademark Review, the IP office of the European Union is the most innovative in the world.
