The 57th final of the national Swiss Youth in Science competition took place on 22 April at the University of St Gallen (HSG). Christian Moser, who manages the IPI’s involvement, presented a special prize to each of the two winners.
In the morning, visitors had the opportunity to view all the final-round projects and ask the young people about them. The varied nature of their work – from the historical re-appraisal of a specific topic to physics solutions – was impressive. Many of the projects were of a very high calibre, and it was clear that a great deal of effort had gone into them.
A total of 126 young researchers from 18 cantons took part in the final. They’d been working on their inventions and ideas for at least a year. At the start of the year, the IPI held a workshop for the young participants in which it explained how they can protect their intellectual property and what they need to watch out for in their project work (copyright). The IPI has been a partner of Swiss Youth in Science for many years.
IPI special prizes for two finalists
Two finalists received the special ‘Swiss Innovation Forum’ award sponsored by the IPI:
- Joanne Azirah (topic: ‘The effectiveness of artificial neural networks for proactive learning invention in the education system’)
- Noel Rhyner (topic: ‘Generating energy with vehicle-induced air currents’)
Both prize winners will attend the Swiss Innovation Forum in Basel in November.
